Protecting the Community’s Health
PROTECTING THE COMMUNITY’S HEALTH
While public health’s work focuses primarily on the communitywide prevention of illness and injury, certain health services for individuals are critical to safeguarding the community’s health. In order to ensure this protection, we provide testing, treatment and information in the following areas:
- Family Planning
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
- Tuberculosis (TB)
BREAST & CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING
We provide breast exams and Pap smears as part a state-wide Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program for eligible women, and partner with area radiologists who provide mammograms and other diagnostic services.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL
Monitoring, preventing, and controlling communicable diseases, such as flu, rabies, MRSA, and tuberculosis, are part of our overall effort to protect and promote our community’s health and quality of life.
We offer support and education to pregnant women and parents of young children, so that all Kitsap children get off to a good start and can thrive in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment.
INFORMATION FOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS
We operate as partners with the full range of our community’s medical and veterinary care providers, hospitals and other care facilities, pharmacies, and school nurses. This partnership is essential in protecting our community’s health.
