PREDICTABLE AND PREVENTABLE
Car and bike accidents. Drowning and falls. Suicide and violence. When added up, accidental and intentional injuries are the leading causes of death for Americans between the ages of one and 44. In Kitsap County, injuries are the fourth leading cause of death and fifth leading cause of hospitalization.
Injuries are a serious public health issue. They cost Americans $406 billion annually in medical expenses and lost productivity. The non-monetary costs are equally important–the inability to work, play or learn due to disability; a reduced quality of life; untimely deaths.
Research shows that injuries can be predictable and preventable.
