FOOD SAFETY AT HOME

Food safety in your home kitchen is just as important as food safety in restaurant kitchens. Foodborne illnesses affect millions of Americans each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate there are 48 million cases of foodborne illnesses each year in the US, resulting in 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.

Foodborne illness occurs when people eat food that contains germs. They are most dangerous for children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems—but they can affect anyone.

Preventing foodborne illnesses starts when you buy food, and continues when you store, prepare, cook and serve it at home.
